Jonathan Ybarra Obituary: 22-Year-Old Found Dead After Goshen, Indiana Shooting Investigation
With sadness, we remember Jonathan Ybarra, 22, of Warsaw, Indiana, whose life came to an unexpected end following an incident in LaPorte County after a September 18 shooting in Goshen.
The circumstances surrounding Ybarra’s death have brought a complicated and difficult loss to those who knew him, while authorities continue working to establish the full sequence of events.
Goshen Police identified Ybarra as a person of interest in connection with a shooting at the 7-Eleven convenience store at 2220 Elkhart Road. Investigators said Ybarra was believed to have been in possession of the vehicle associated with the incident.
Authorities used automated license plate reader information to track the vehicle as it traveled away from Goshen. The last known information placed the vehicle in LaPorte County, where the investigation later led to an encounter involving Indiana State Police.
According to Indiana State Police, Ybarra was subsequently found deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
His death adds another tragic development to an investigation that began with the September 18 shooting in Goshen. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding both incidents and the events leading up to Ybarra’s death.
