Carlos Ramirez Obituary, Death – 23-Year-Old Tucson Police Recruit Killed in Pima County Shooting, A 23-year-old Tucson police recruit was killed in an early morning shooting in Pima County, Arizona, while his 23-year-old fiancée, a Pima County corrections officer, was also shot and hospitalized, according to authorities.
The deceased man was identified as Carlos Ramirez, who had been preparing for a career with the Tucson Police Department. He had also previously worked as a corrections officer with Pima County, according to local law enforcement sources.
Pima County Shooting Leaves Police Recruit Dead
The shooting was reported at approximately 6 a.m. at a home in the 7700 block of South Enchanted Spring Drive, about 17 miles southwest of Tucson.
Responding deputies found Ramirez suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His fiancée was also wounded and transported to a hospital. Authorities said she was in stable condition.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos initially described the victims as husband and wife before authorities clarified that they were engaged. The couple also shared a child.
Suspects Sought in Shooting
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said investigators were searching for multiple suspects believed to have been involved in the shooting.
Authorities described the suspects as Hispanic males wearing black clothing and ski masks. Investigators said they were believed to be traveling in a gray Acura MDX, which may have been missing a piece near the gas cap.
Police have not publicly established a motive for the shooting.
Tucson Police Chief Monica Prieto described the incident as a tragic event and a tremendous loss for the department and the wider community.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects to contact law enforcement.
