The incident occurred just before 7:00 a.m. near the intersection of John Alford Parkway within the Village of Hebron. Authorities say the crash involved a single vehicle and resulted in a fatality after the driver left his lane of travel.
According to police, 57-year-old Joseph Rodgers of Hebron was traveling southbound on SR 79 when his vehicle crossed left-of-center into the northbound lanes for reasons that have not yet been determined. The vehicle then struck a utility pole along the roadside.
Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene following reports of the crash. First responders worked to assist Rodgers, who was found seriously injured inside the vehicle. He was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite all life-saving efforts by medical personnel, Rodgers was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
