Jessica Miller Killed, Two Others Injured in I-75 Construction Zone Crash in Wood County – A Tennessee woman is dead and a man is seriously injured following a tragic rear-end crash involving a minivan and a box truck in an active construction zone on northbound I-75 in Wood County early Thursday morning.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. near the I-475 interchange in Perrysburg Township, where traffic was affected by ongoing road work. According to investigators, a Freightliner M2 box truck driven by 54-year-old Joel Settlemire of Findlay was stopped in the middle lane due to conditions within the active work zone when the collision occurred.
Authorities say a Dodge Grand Caravan driven by 40-year-old Jessica Miller of Tullahoma, Tennessee, failed to maintain an assured clear distance and struck the rear of the stationary truck. The impact caused severe damage to the minivan and resulted in serious consequences for those inside.
Troopers reported that none of the three occupants in the minivan were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Jessica Miller was wearing only a lap belt, while 38-year-old David Miller and a 9-year-old girl were found in the rear of the vehicle without seatbelts.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies arrived quickly on scene and worked urgently to assist all those involved. Despite their efforts, Jessica Miller was transported to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where she was later pronounced deceased.
David Miller was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries and remains under medical care. The 9-year-old girl sustained minor injuries and was transported for evaluation and treatment.
