The preliminary investigation found that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 87 while the Chevrolet 2500 was in the turnaround at the intersection. DPS said the pickup driver did not see the motorcycle and failed to yield the right of way, resulting in the collision. The pickup then struck the Chevrolet Trax, which was waiting in a turn lane on FM 2105.
The pickup driver, 62-year-old William Dugan Obryant of Carlsbad, and the Trax driver, 75-year-old Gene Edwards Perry of San Angelo, were transported to Shannon Medical Center with minor injuries. Weather conditions were reported as clear and the roadway was dry.
Emergency crews from the San Angelo Fire Department, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Transportation assisted at the scene. Traffic was temporarily diverted while authorities investigated the collision and cleared the roadway.
For Martinez’s family and loved ones, the crash represents the sudden loss of a 56-year-old San Angelo resident whose life extended far beyond the circumstances of his final morning.
