Sharon Bukulmez Obituary: 61-Year-Old and Grandchildren Kinsley and Sawyer Grubb Found Dead After Vehicle Submerged in Maine Pond
A search for a Mount Desert woman and her two young grandchildren ended in tragedy Sunday morning after authorities discovered their vehicle submerged in Pond Cove in Roque Bluffs, Maine.
The victims were identified as Sharon Bukulmez, 61, of Mount Desert, and her grandchildren, Kinsley Grubb, 5, and Sawyer Grubb, 3, both of Bar Harbor.
According to Maine State Police, the three were last seen leaving a family gathering in Jonesboro at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday. They were expected to continue to Machias, but they never arrived at their destination.
As hours passed without contact, concerned family members alerted authorities, prompting a search for Bukulmez and the two children.
Investigators worked to determine their whereabouts, with Bar Harbor police obtaining cellphone location information from Bukulmez’s phone. The information directed authorities toward an area of water near the boat ramp at the end of Schoppee Point Road in Roque Bluffs.
The search ultimately led authorities to Pond Cove, where the vehicle carrying Bukulmez and her grandchildren was found submerged.
The discovery brought a heartbreaking end to the overnight search and left relatives and members of the surrounding communities mourning the loss of a grandmother and two young children whose lives were cut short.
The circumstances surrounding how the vehicle entered the water remain under investigation. Authorities are expected to continue examining the scene and other available evidence as they work to establish what happened.
