Salem Motorcycle Crash Obituary, Death: 20-Year-Old Killed in Route 37 Collision in Illinois
A 20-year-old man from Salem, Illinois, died Tuesday night, October 6, 2026, after a motorcycle collided with an SUV at the intersection of Illinois Route 37 and Tonti Road north of Salem.
The crash happened at approximately 8:27 p.m. as the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Route 37. According to the initial information provided, the motorcycle collided with an SUV traveling eastbound on Tonti Road.
Marion County Coroner Claude Howell pronounced the motorcycle rider dead at the scene. Authorities had not initially released his identity while relatives were being notified.
The collision caused significant damage. The motorcycle rider was reportedly thrown into a nearby field, while the impact knocked the SUV’s front passenger-side tire off.
Three people who were traveling in the SUV were taken to Salem Township Hospital with apparent minor injuries.
Emergency crews from the Salem Fire Protection District responded to the crash. Kinmundy-Alma firefighters also assisted by providing lighting at the scene while investigators worked.
Illinois Route 37 and Tonti Road remained closed until after 1 a.m. Wednesday as emergency personnel cleared the area and an Illinois State Police accident reconstructionist examined the scene.
The circumstances that caused the collision remain under investigation. Authorities have not released additional information about contributing factors or what led the motorcycle and SUV to collide.
