Monica Will and David Will Obituary, Cause of Death: Moundsville Couple Killed in Home Shooting
Monica L. Will, 46, and her husband, David D. Will, 44, are being remembered after they were fatally shot inside their Moundsville, West Virginia, home on October 1, 2026.
The tragedy unfolded early Thursday morning on Middle Grave Creek Road. According to information released by Marshall County Sheriff Mike Dougherty, 911 received a call from the residence at approximately 1:40 a.m., but no one spoke on the line.
Deputies responding to the home encountered Cyle B. Fabrizio, 25, of Moundsville, who authorities said fired a pistol toward them. Deputies took cover as they worked to determine the source of the gunfire.
The situation escalated when Fabrizio reportedly appeared in the doorway holding a juvenile girl at gunpoint. Authorities said a deputy fired a single rifle round, striking Fabrizio. He later died from his injuries.
After the confrontation, deputies entered the residence and discovered Monica and David Will suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
Preliminary findings released by the sheriff indicate that Fabrizio allegedly shot Monica through a window before entering the home and shooting David. Authorities said Fabrizio had grievances involving the couple related to an earlier incident and that investigators were also examining his reported interest in the couple’s juvenile daughter.
The couple’s two children, a 16-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son, were reported physically safe following the incident. They were placed with relatives, and authorities have withheld their identities because they are minors.
Monica Will was an English teacher at John Marshall High School. Her death deeply affected the school community, with academic, athletic and adult education activities canceled Thursday and counseling services made available to students, staff and others affected by the tragedy.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police are investigating both the deaths of Monica and David Will and the deputy-involved shooting that killed Fabrizio. Authorities have described the incident as isolated and said there is no continuing threat to the broader public.
