San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is recovering from a serious car accident that left him with multiple injuries, including a concussion, broken ribs, a broken nose, and a broken hand.

The crash occurred on July 14, 2026, in Palo Alto, California, but details of the accident became public later in the month as Shanahan prepared for the start of training camp.

Shanahan later explained that the collision was his fault. He said he was driving at approximately 20 mph when his phone slipped from his lap and became stuck between the seats.
