Far Rockaway Shooting Today: Two Dead After Queens Home Shooting, Explosion, and NYPD Officer-Involved Shooting
A major police investigation is underway after a deadly shooting in Far Rockaway, Queens, left two people dead and resulted in an officer-involved shooting on Saturday.
The incident unfolded around midday on Ocean Crest Boulevard near Hartman Lane and Beach 25th Street, where New York City police responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire inside a residence. According to investigators, a woman told emergency dispatchers that her husband was armed and that she had heard multiple gunshots inside the home.
What Happened in Far Rockaway?
Police said the woman escaped from the residence after reportedly discovering a victim inside a bedroom. She then contacted 911 and warned responding officers that her husband was armed with a shotgun.
As officers secured the scene and waited for the NYPD Emergency Service Unit (ESU), they attempted to establish contact with the suspect. Authorities said communication efforts were unsuccessful.
Shortly after officers prepared to enter the residence, a powerful explosion erupted inside the home, sending flames through the property.
Moments later, the suspect allegedly exited the burning house carrying a shotgun while wearing a tactical vest containing additional ammunition. Police repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon, but officials said he failed to comply.
Several officers then opened fire, striking the suspect. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
