Following an autopsy, the Cook County Medical Examiner determined that Farley died from an accidental overdose of morphine and cocaine, commonly referred to as a “speedball.” The report also noted that advanced coronary artery disease was a significant contributing factor. Toxicology testing detected other substances, but they were not considered contributors to his death.

Farley’s death closely mirrored that of one of his comedic heroes, John Belushi, who also died at the age of 33 from an overdose involving similar drugs.
