Dartel “Tel Tel” Long Jr. Obituary: Greenwood High School Graduate Dies in Tragic Nolin Lake Drowning Accident
The Greenwood High School community is mourning the tragic loss of Dartel “Tel Tel” Long Jr., a 20-year-old Bowling Green resident whose life was cut short following a drowning incident at Nolin Lake in Edmonson County, Kentucky.
According to the Edmonson County Coroner’s Office, Long died on the evening of Sunday, July 19, after emergency responders were called to the Juniper Lane area off Dickeys Mill Road at Nolin Lake. Authorities identified the victim as Dartel Long Jr. of Bowling Green. Officials have stated that no foul play is suspected, and the circumstances surrounding the drowning remain under review.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, including members of the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department, EMS, Edmonson County Emergency Management, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Despite the efforts of first responders, Long was pronounced deceased.
Known affectionately as “Tel Tel” by those who loved him, Dartel was remembered by the Greenwood High School community as a talented athlete, supportive friend, and a young man whose positive presence touched many lives. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 2024, where he was involved in both football and track.
Friends, classmates, and coaches described Long as someone with a vibrant personality who brought energy and encouragement to those around him. Beyond his accomplishments in athletics, he was admired for his character, kindness, and the way he supported his teammates and friends.
The Greenwood community has expressed its condolences to Long’s family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time. Many are reflecting on the memories they shared with him and the lasting impression he made during his years as a student and athlete.
