David “Dave” Patrick Gruss Obituary: Fort Wayne Resident, Devoted Family Man and Man of Faith, Dies at 68
It is with deep sadness that family and friends mourn the passing of David “Dave” Patrick Gruss, a beloved resident whose life was defined by kindness, dedication, faith, and love for those around him. Dave passed away on July 14, 2026, at the age of 68, leaving behind a lasting legacy as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Born on July 19, 1957, in Decatur, Indiana, Dave was the son of the late Donald and Frances (Miller) Gruss. From an early age, he was shaped by the values of family, hard work, and compassion. Growing up in a close-knit household, he developed a strong appreciation for the simple joys of life and carried those values throughout his journey.
Dave dedicated more than two decades of his professional life to serving others as a route salesman for Pepsi. Known for his reliability, friendly personality, and commitment to his customers, he built meaningful relationships with many people through his work. His positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile reflected the character that defined him both professionally and personally.
Beyond his career, Dave was deeply devoted to his faith and community. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. His faith served as an important foundation in his life, guiding the way he treated others and inspiring him to give back through service and compassion. Those who knew him admired his commitment to his church community and his dedication to helping others.
A proud Hoosier, Dave found happiness in spending time outdoors and embracing the beauty of nature. He enjoyed farming, camping, horseback riding, and creating memories with the people he loved. These activities reflected his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures and his connection to the world around him.
Above all, Dave treasured his family. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he found endless joy in spending time with them. Whether sharing stories, playing games, offering guidance, or simply enjoying everyday moments together, Dave’s love for his grandchildren was clear. The memories he created with them will remain a cherished part of his family’s story.
Dave is survived by his children, David “Davy” (Sara) Gruss, Tricia (Joe) Meyers, and Daniel “Danny” Gruss; his grandchildren, Molly, Quinn, Elleana, Lily, and Rosalia; and his siblings, Vickie Kidwell, Karen (Tsanyen) Yang, Gregory (Patty) Gruss, Joseph (Julie) Gruss, Barbara (Shayne) Compton, Steven (Amy) Gruss, and Tonia (Brian) Mahoney. He was preceded in death by his sister, Therese Gruss.
Family and friends will gather to honor Dave’s life and celebrate the memories he leaves behind. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Yoder, Indiana. Visitation will take place one hour before the service. Additional visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Elzey Patterson Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian, Indiana, with a Rosary Service beginning at 4:30 p.m. Burial will follow the Mass at the church cemetery.
In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities in honor of Dave’s lifelong dedication to serving others and supporting those in need.
