Josh Travelstead Obituary: Bridgeport, WV Aviation Mechanic Dies at 44 Following Courageous Battle With Cancer
Family, friends, and the communities of Lumberport and Bridgeport, West Virginia, are mourning the loss of Josh Travelstead, who passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, July 9, 2026, at the age of 44 after a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by his loving family during his final moments, Josh leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Born on January 21, 1982, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Josh was the son of James “Jimmy” Travelstead II and Marianne Frazier. He shared more than two decades of marriage with his beloved wife, Jennifer (Southern) Travelstead, whom he married on August 14, 2004. Together they built a loving family with their three children, Briar, Ella, and Cutler, who remained the center of his life and greatest source of pride.
Josh was a 2000 graduate of Bridgeport High School and completed the Aviation Mechanics Program at United Technical Center. He dedicated more than 22 years of service as an aviation mechanic with Pratt & Whitney, earning the respect of coworkers through his professionalism, dedication, and exceptional work ethic.
A faithful member of Centerbranch Church, Josh was deeply committed to serving his community. He volunteered with Liberty High School Football, supported Mountain Strong initiatives, and enjoyed spending time at Sozo Fitness. Outside of work and service, he found happiness in hunting, fishing, bull riding, camping, and making memories with family and friends.
Josh is survived by his wife, children, parents, grandmother Carolyn Travelstead, siblings, extended family, and many close friends who will forever cherish the love, encouragement, and strength he shared throughout his life.
