Derek “Big Funky” Wilson Obituary, GREER, SOUTH CAROLINA — Bryan Derek “Big Funky” Wilson, a beloved husband, father, and member of the community, passed away on June 27, 2026, at the age of 45. His death has left family, friends, and loved ones mourning the loss of a man remembered for his kindness, personality, and impact on those around him.
Born and raised in Marion, North Carolina, Derek Wilson was the son of Bryan Wade and Joy Smith Wilson of Marion. He was a 2003 graduate of Erskine College, where he was a member of the baseball team. He was also a devoted member of Lake Bowen Baptist Church.
Derek is survived by his wife, Kristen Mabus Wilson, who was by his side at their home, along with their twin daughters, Brantley Grace Wilson and Brynnley Faith Wilson. He is also survived by his sister, Alicia Dell Wilson of Wilmington, North Carolina, as well as extended family members and many friends who cherished him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service honoring Derek’s life at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at The Wood Mortuary in Greer, South Carolina. The service will be conducted by Pastor Bill Harris.
A visitation will be held prior to the memorial service from 2:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at The Wood Mortuary. The family is receiving condolences at their home during this difficult time.
In memory of Derek, memorial donations may be made to Black Tie Boston Rescue or Erskine College Baseball. Loved ones and friends are encouraged to share their condolences and memories as the family honors the life of a man who touched many hearts.
