Chelan Fire Today: Henderson Fire Triggers Level 3 Evacuations Near Chelan, Washington
A fast-moving brush fire burning near Chelan, Washington, has triggered Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders as firefighters battle flames threatening homes and infrastructure. The wildfire, identified as the Henderson Fire, prompted a major emergency response Wednesday afternoon.
According to Chelan County Emergency Management, the fire ignited shortly before 2 p.m. in the Henderson Road area, burning through sagebrush and dry grass under conditions favorable for rapid fire spread. As the blaze intensified, officials issued Level 3 evacuation orders for portions of Union Valley, requiring residents in the affected area to leave immediately.
Additional Level 2 “Get Ready” evacuation notices remain in effect for neighborhoods surrounding Henderson Road, including portions of Union Valley Road, the Chelan fairgrounds area, Chelan Ranch Road, and Whitetail Way. Authorities have also closed Union Valley Road while firefighting operations continue.
Fire officials escalated the response to a third alarm as flames threatened nearby homes. Ground crews, supported by aircraft, are working aggressively to slow the fire’s advance and protect structures. Officials have also asked boaters to stay clear of Lake Chelan so firefighting aircraft can safely scoop water for aerial suppression efforts.
An emergency shelter has been established at the Lake Chelan Community Center for residents displaced by the evacuation orders. Emergency managers continue to monitor fire behavior and warn that evacuation levels could change as weather and fire conditions evolve.
The cause of the Henderson Fire remains under investigation, and no injuries or structural losses had been officially reported at the time of the latest update. Fire crews remain on scene as they work to contain the blaze and protect nearby communities.
