The Adams County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victim was Joshua E. Collins, 47, of Clayton.
According to Adams County Coroner Scott Graham, Collins was pronounced dead at the scene following the single-vehicle accident. Graham said a full examination and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash are currently underway.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to the scene near Highway 24 and West Main Street in Clayton at approximately 12:48 a.m. Monday after receiving reports of a crash involving a utility terrain vehicle, commonly known as a UTV.
When deputies arrived, they discovered the overturned vehicle with Collins as the only occupant. Emergency personnel determined that he had died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that Collins was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Authorities also noted that he was not wearing a helmet. Officials said no other passengers were inside the UTV, and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Law enforcement officers continue to investigate what may have caused the vehicle to overturn. At this time, officials have not released additional details regarding possible contributing factors such as speed, road conditions, or impairment.
