Jose Saenz Ventura Killed in Roanoke Memorial Day Crash; Kenneth Lynn Campbell Jr. Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run – Jose Saenz Ventura Car Accident: Victim Identified as Jose Saenz Ventura After Fatal Memorial Day Crash in Roanoke,A devastating Memorial Day crash in Roanoke City has left one man dead and another facing serious criminal charges after a violent collision at a busy intersection Monday morning.

According to Roanoke Police, officers responded around 11:23 a.m. to the intersection of Lafayette Boulevard and Melrose Avenue NW following reports of a major accident involving two vehicles. When first responders arrived, they discovered a Chevy Equinox abandoned at the scene and two injured occupants trapped inside a Honda Civic.

Both victims inside the Civic were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Jose Saenz Ventura of Roanoke, died from the severe injuries he suffered in the crash. A passenger riding with him survived and was treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators said the people inside the Chevy Equinox fled the scene on foot immediately after the collision instead of remaining to help. Police quickly began searching the surrounding neighborhood and later located both individuals nearby on Crescent Street NW.

Authorities arrested 42-year-old Kenneth Lynn Campbell Jr. of Roanoke in connection with the deadly incident. He has since been charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Jose Saenz Ventura was driving the Honda Civic and attempting to turn left onto eastbound Melrose Avenue while having a green light. Investigators allege that the Chevy Equinox ran a red light before crashing into the Civic, causing catastrophic damage.

The sudden death of Jose Saenz Ventura has left family members, friends, and loved ones mourning an unexpected and heartbreaking loss. Those who knew him are now left grieving a life cut short far too soon during what should have been a peaceful holiday.

The tragic crash has also renewed concerns about reckless driving, traffic safety, and the dangers of fleeing accident scenes. Community members continue to express sadness over the incident as investigators work to determine every detail surrounding the collision.
