Gordon Fields Killed in Marietta, Georgia Crash on I-75 Bridge After Car Slams Into Stopped Tractor-Trailer Near North Marietta Parkway – Gordon Fields Marietta, Georgia Car Accident: Father Killed After Car Slammed Into Stopped Tractor-Trailer on I-75 Bridge,A quiet overnight drive through Marietta turned deadly early Friday when 47-year-old Gordon Fields of Marietta, Georgia, lost his life in a violent crash along Interstate 75 South near North Marietta Parkway.

Police said the deadly wreck happened just before 1 a.m. in Cobb County after traffic had already been backed up for hours because of an earlier accident that shut down all southbound lanes of I-75. Investigators said vehicles were stopped on the bridge while emergency crews cleared the first crash from the roadway.

According to authorities, one of the tractor-trailers involved was being driven by 29-year-old Mayki Marcelin of Davenport, Florida.
Police said Marcelin’s truck had remained stopped in the southbound lane even after traffic around it started moving again once the roadway reopened.

Investigators said a second tractor-trailer driven by 35-year-old Daniel Granados of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was traveling southbound in the same lane when he suddenly came upon the stopped truck. Granados reportedly tried to avoid a direct collision by swerving at the last second. His tractor-trailer then grazed the left side of Marcelin’s truck.

Just moments later, Fields approached the scene in a white Volkswagen. Authorities said his vehicle slammed into the rear of the stopped tractor-trailer before he could avoid it. The impact was devastating.

Emergency crews rushed to the crash scene, but Fields was pronounced dead there on the interstate. Officials said no other serious injuries were immediately reported. Both tractor-trailer drivers stayed at the scene and are cooperating fully with investigators.

The deadly crash caused another major overnight traffic nightmare along one of metro Atlanta’s busiest highway corridors. Interstate 75 through Marietta regularly carries heavy overnight freight traffic along with commuters heading through north Georgia, and the bridge near North Marietta Parkway is known for becoming heavily congested during accidents.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly what led to the fatal collision.

Authorities said they have not yet confirmed whether speed, visibility, distraction, or roadway conditions played a role in the crash.
No charges have been filed as the investigation continues
