Shawn R. Woolum Motorcycle Accident: Motorcyclist Killed in Crash With Car Driven by 16-Year-Old in Pleasant Township – Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on May 18, 2026, at approximately 6:08 p.m., at the intersection of State Route 4 and White Oaks Road in Pleasant Township, Marion County.
According to authorities, the crash involved a red 2011 Kia Forte, driven by a 16-year-old juvenile, and a black 2017 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse motorcycle, operated by 54-year-old Shawn R. Woolum of Marion.
Preliminary investigation indicates the juvenile driver was traveling northbound on State Route 4 when he failed to yield while attempting a left turn onto White Oaks Road. At the same time, Woolum was traveling southbound on State Route 4 when his motorcycle struck the Kia Forte. The impact caused Woolum to be thrown from the motorcycle.
Emergency responders from Pleasant Township EMS transported Woolum to Marion General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The juvenile driver was also transported to the same hospital by Marion Township EMS, where he was treated for minor injuries. Officials noted that Woolum was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Pleasant Township Fire and EMS, Marion Township EMS, Kirby’s Towing, and Precision Towing, as crews worked to secure the area and assist those involved.
