Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the suspect as 26-year-old Javon Brown, who was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. He has since been charged with murder and is being held in the Harris County Jail as the investigation continues.
Authorities revealed that the victims, along with a man, had been involved in an earlier altercation at a different location before heading to the apartment complex, reportedly seeking assistance. That man was not injured but was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
Investigators believe the confrontation stemmed from an ongoing dispute involving personal relationships. Officials say Cardenas had agreed to meet another woman connected to the disagreement, but the situation escalated into a heated argument that ultimately turned violent.
