Sixteen-year-old Rehman Abdul was expected home within minutes. Late Tuesday night, he called his mother to check in, telling her that he and his friends were finishing their night and heading back.
Instead, a late-night journey along the Belt Parkway ended in tragedy, leaving a Brooklyn family devastated and a community mourning the loss of a teenager whose life was cut far too short.
Rehman was riding in the back of a black Cadillac Escalade with four other teenagers after the group had spent time at a local gas station. The vehicle was traveling eastbound along the Belt Parkway, with 18-year-old Huzayfah Algaheim reportedly behind the wheel.
At approximately 11:35 p.m. near 65th Street in Bay Ridge, the ride reportedly took a tragic turn. What had begun as an ordinary night with friends suddenly became a devastating event that would forever change the lives of Rehman’s family and those closest to him.
