Hamilton Fire Today: Major East-End House Fire Leaves One Hospitalized and Causes Up to $1.5M in Damage
A significant residential fire in Hamilton’s east end early Friday morning has left a home heavily damaged and sent one person to hospital for treatment.
Hamilton firefighters were called to a property on Rosslyn Avenue North near Roxborough Avenue at approximately 1:41 a.m. on August 21, 2026. Crews arriving at the scene found flames and heavy smoke coming from the one-and-a-half-storey house.
The response was quickly expanded as additional fire crews were brought in to help contain the blaze. Firefighters conducted a search of the building and worked to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring homes.
Resident treated after smoke exposure
Everyone inside the affected residence was able to get out before firefighters arrived. One adult woman experienced minor smoke inhalation and was transported to hospital for assessment.
No other injuries involving residents or firefighters have been reported.
Fire officials estimated the damage to the property at between $1 million and $1.5 million. The neighbouring residence was protected from major damage as crews worked to contain the fire.
Cause of Hamilton fire under investigation
Investigators believe the fire may have originated in the kitchen, although the exact cause has not been established.
Because of the substantial property damage, the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified. Investigators are expected to examine the building and available evidence to determine what caused the fire.
Fire crews remained at the property after the main flames were brought under control to check for remaining hot spots and ensure the fire did not flare up again.
The incident serves as another reminder of how quickly a residential fire can spread, particularly during the early morning hours. Residents are encouraged to maintain working smoke alarms and have a clear escape plan for their household.
