CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. — The Chautauqua County community is mourning the tragic deaths of Alexander D. Morelli, 23, of Meadville, Pennsylvania, and Doug A. Griffith, 51, of Massena, New York, following a fatal motor vehicle accident on Route 430 in the Town of Chautauqua on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

The devastating collision claimed the lives of both drivers and has left their families, friends and loved ones facing an unimaginable loss. Two lives were suddenly cut short in a crash that has brought grief to everyone affected.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash at approximately 3:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a motor vehicle accident involving injuries. Investigators determined that Morelli was traveling eastbound on Route 430 when his vehicle failed to keep right and crossed the center line. His vehicle subsequently collided with another vehicle traveling westbound.

The westbound vehicle was operated by Griffith, according to authorities. The force of the collision resulted in fatal injuries to both men. Morelli, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Griffith, 51, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
