I-70 Accident Today: Multiple Crashes in Kansas and Missouri Cause Closures, Delays and Fatality
I-70 has been affected by multiple serious traffic incidents today, Friday, August 14, 2026, with crashes causing closures and significant delays in parts of Kansas and Missouri.
In Bonner Springs, Kansas, an early-morning crash involving two semi-trucks shut down Interstate 70 in both directions near the Wyandotte and Leavenworth county line. The collision also resulted in a vehicle fire and prompted a hazardous-materials response. Westbound I-70 was temporarily closed while emergency crews worked at the scene, while eastbound traffic was reduced.
The crash was reported at about 6:46 a.m. roughly three miles west of Bonner Springs. Westbound lanes reopened around 9:03 a.m., while eastbound lanes were reopened in stages as crews cleared the scene.
A separate fatal incident occurred overnight in Wentzville, Missouri. Police said a 23-year-old New York man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on I-70 shortly after midnight. Westbound I-70 was temporarily closed at Wentzville Parkway before reopening.
Authorities have not indicated that these incidents are connected.
