Harvey Richards Obituary: 14-Year-Old Dundee Teen Killed in Summerfield Township ATV Crash, Another Critically Injured
The Dundee, Michigan community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Harvey Wayne Richards, 14, who was killed in a tragic early morning crash involving a four-wheeler and an SUV in Summerfield Township. The devastating incident also left a 17-year-old teen critically injured.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 5:03 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, to the area of Bacon Road south of Todd Road following reports of a serious collision.
Preliminary findings indicate that a black Chevrolet Traverse was backing out of a private driveway when it was struck on the front passenger side by a Honda TRX250 four-wheeler traveling southbound on Bacon Road.
Authorities said Harvey Richards and the 17-year-old were riding the ATV at the time of the crash. Investigators reported that neither teen was wearing a helmet, and both were ejected from the vehicle, coming to rest on the roadway south of the point of impact.
Harvey Wayne Richards was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 17-year-old rider was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators also determined that the four-wheeler did not have a functioning headlight and was not authorized for use on public roadways.
The occupants of the SUV, a 54-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man from Petersburg, were wearing seat belts and were not injured in the collision.
