Lake Geneva Boating Accident: 57-Year-Old Woman Dies After Falling Overboard Near Gordy’s Marine in Fontana
The Fontana, Wisconsin community is mourning a tragic boating accident on Lake Geneva that claimed the life of a 57-year-old woman on Monday evening. The sudden incident has prompted an investigation by the Fontana Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), as authorities work to determine exactly how the fatal accident occurred.
According to officials, the incident took place around 8 p.m. near Gordy’s Marine on the western end of Lake Geneva. Emergency responders were dispatched after reports of a water rescue involving a woman who had fallen from a recreational boat during a docking maneuver. Authorities say the vessel was carrying three people at the time of the incident.
Investigators reported that the woman fell into the water and became entangled in the boat’s propeller as the vessel was attempting to dock. First responders quickly arrived and were able to free her from the water, but despite immediate life-saving efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No other passengers on board were injured in the accident. Officials have stated that, based on preliminary findings, alcohol is not believed to have played a role. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
